Bio


Brandi discovered her love for animals very early in life when she worked in a companion animal clinic. She was very excited to join OVMA as the Manager of Government and External Relations eight years ago, as the position provided the opportunity to incorporate her passion for the industry into her professional life.

 

In her role she works closely with the Board of Directors, members, government agencies, and external stakeholders to identify emerging issues that could have potential impact on the veterinary profession. Brandi is a representative on various government and stakeholder working groups that address veterinary and animal-related issues, with the goal of advancing the profession and protecting the health and welfare of animals.

 

She began her career in the non-profit sector, where she worked for over 15 years gaining experience in business and policy development, public relations, and accreditation. Throughout her tenure, Brandi acted as the external representative for various community partners, including a position as community co-educator for the University of Toronto Medical School, a member of a research team with a group from the University of Toronto studying the impact of community co-education in medical studies, and as an editor for the development of a best practice guide for community co-education in health sciences with the University of Toronto.



Synopsis:

Over the last 12 years, OVMA has spearheaded crucial legislative reforms, leading to the development of the Veterinary Professionals Act. This session, we’ll delve into the new Act and discuss regulatory framework changes that will help enhance team dynamics within veterinary practices. We’ll explore how these changes aim to elevate standards of care and professional collaboration, ultimately improving the well-being of veterinary professionals, clients, and animals. Attendees will gain an understanding of the evolving veterinary regulatory environment and practical insights into effectively navigating these changes within their practices and knowledge to thrive in the dynamic landscape shaped by the Veterinary Professionals Act.
